I have finally graduated to the STX level! Going into this season (weekend warrior) this reel gives me more confidence regardless of the application or the conditions. Even after eight hours of stained water fishing the maintenance was a breeze to keep the reel performing better than any that I have used--EVER! The drag system is unstoppable!

Early Revo STX
Posted February 13, 2013
Guys; be careful when going through the reviews. I have heard mixed reviews from several web sites and fishermen based on their casting experience. I bought my Revo STX back in 2005 or 2006 which may have been Abu Garcia's first release???? I will say I can not give a fair rating because of the feedback I have received and I don't have the latest version. Bur I can say that I will give up my left arm before I part with mine. I never had a back lash with mine and it still performs like it just came out of the box. I have been using bait casting reels for over 50 years and even when they didn't have a braking system other than the thumb.

The STX/Vendetta was my very first combo that I bought. I found that the reel rarely backlashes when the tuning is correct. I love the braking system and power that comes from Abu reels. But the reel is quite heavy compared to other reels but in return for smoothness and power, its a great reel.

I've been upgrading my equipment slowly and decided on AG as my reel of choice. So far they've been nothing short of great. Not a ton of mileage on them yet but judging from their past I can probably expect a long life. I also picked up a Cardinal spinning reel that works great and since I will be getting rid of a couple older spinning reels look forward to trying out the new Revo.

This is the first baitcaster that I have owned that cost more than 150$, I am certainly not disappointed. The frame is very strong and has no flex to it. The casting is above average and backlash is NEVER an issue. The paint, however, is fairly easy to scratch and chip. I don't know how that can be approved though and is the best for a reel in its class. I did have one issue though, I take great care of my equipment but the one plastic part, the magnetic brake knob, broke after a few months. It had a chip taken out of the inside round cylinder, which caused the knob to sink in just a little bit. which in return created a rubbing against the spool hurting cast ability and quietness. Overall though I couldn't be happier. Cheap fix. I own the STX HS right Hand model without the lubrication hatch.
