I think this is the best reel I have ever used. I purchased two Max reels to play with before I bought the SX to check the quality on the low profile type reels. They all are working great with very little maintenance. I have had the Max's for two years and the Revo SX for one. The reels I retired when I got these were two 1960 Ambassadeur 5000's my dad bought new. I used them for over forty five years. They are now retired and in glass showcases.

I had great expectations for the new Revo SX I purchased just last week, since I own a Revo S. However, the reel will not cast without a backlash. I have adjusted the brake to the limit as well as the side adjustment to the max. Every cast regardless of speed spins the spool and outruns the line. I may have just purchased a lemon and hope Abu Garcia will make it right.

Hello and thank you for contacting us. We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue dialing in your Revo SX and are here to help. All Abu Garcia reels carry a 1 year warranty and a customer service representative will contact you at the email address that you provided with this review. If it is indeed a mechanical issue, we will get it taken care of quickly so that you can get back to fishing.

You may also want to try and configure the casting brakes in the following manner to ensure that your SX is set up properly. With the rod-reel-line-lure properly assembled, place the tip of your thumb on the line to hold the spool. Depress the thumb bar with the pad of your thumb to disengage the gears. Allow the lure to drop to the ground. If the lure does not fall when the thumb bar is depressed, turn the spool tension knob (located next to the reel handle) counterclockwise (left) to reduce tension on the spool. If the lure falls to the ground and the spool continues to rotate, spool tension is too loose. Rotate the knob clockwise (right) to increase tension. Once the spool tension is set, you can then adjust the MagTrax magnetic brake by rotating the dial to further fine tune you casting.

There is a little bit of a learning curve associated with baitcasting reels but with practice, it becomes much easier and allows for extreme accuracy and control. We will be in touch with you shortly to take care of you issue if there is indeed something wrong with your SX.

If you have any questions or need more assistance, we are always here to help. You can reach us at (800) 228-4272.

Solved my backlash/birdsnest problem by using 50 pound braid. No more backlash. Just quite frequently now, the thumbar fails to engage even after turning it several times.

There's been a bunch of great reviews on this reel already. I'll just add that I've been a lifelong Team Diawa user, but they really don't offer anything I think competes with this reel at this price point. Now that I've been using this for a while, I'm going to be an AVID Abu user from here on out. I've got a spare rod I may even get a Pro Max for. Bottom line, this reel is awesome and casts and retrieves like butter. And the size of it feels good in the hand.. I will say, stay away from the Vendetta rod though. I was looking at getting one because it matches the SX and I dropped it in the store and about the last foot of the rod snapped clean off. I paired this with a TFO Gary Loomis signature 6'6" MH and could not be happier with my Revo.

I have been trophy bass fishing my whole life and have had every brand and model reel you can imagine. I fish three full days a week and all i can say is I'm HOOKED on Abu Garcia!!! I bought the REVO SX-HS a little over a week and was stunned by the low price? so i asked to see the box it comes in from behind the counter. As i was reading i realized that this reel had everything on it. This weekend i took it out and strung it with fluorocarbon, then put it on the already great Abu VERITAS rod(which by the way is amazing) and off i went. Over the course of the first two days i caught over 30 largemouth bass. The bass were ranging from 1-4 pounds and the reel handled amazing, very smooth. Now like many of you I always want to know how a reel is going to handle with real weight on it! well...I got to find out!! I caught a 7 1/4 pound a 6 1/2 pound and another 6 pounder. All i can say is WOW this reel will pull trophy bass with ease, never once backlashed, casts extremely far and to make it better i stripped it in less than a minute. I am going to post a picture with this post of the 7 1/4 pounder that came gliding in because of this amazing reel. If you are thinking about buying this reel, it will be worth every penny you spend I Promise!!!
