I purchased this reel specifically for a smallmouth bass fishing trip to Lake Erie. It was my one vacation for 2011. After having the line let out on a few fish, I started paying attention to how I was palming the reel since I thought I was somehow pressing the spool release button. What I eventually discovered is that the anti-reverse was not working on the reel. I looked up Abu's customer service number on my blackberry and gave them a call from the lake. I described the problem that I was having with the reel and that I had bought it to use and was using it on a vacation fishing trip. Their customer service department sent a replacement to me at the Lake Erie State Park by overnight mail. That is exceptional service.

The replacement reel is one of the best I have ever owned. It is a joy to fish with. It handles various weights of lures with ease. It casts as well with 8 lb. line as it does with 14 lb. test.

I used it with jerkbaits, flukes, small tubes with 1/8 oz. lead as well as a 12" worm with 1/2 oz. weight on my home lake in South Carolina. This is a very versatile reel.

The anti-backlash system is very effective and adjustable. With experience, it can be set to accomodate a stiff breeze or pitching. This feature has been very helpful when fishing at night. I have found myself using this reel more and more each time I go out.

My confidence in Abu and their product is high!

I would recommend this to a friend!

This reel is truly amazing. I have casted out 1/8 ounce lures 30 yards with 14 lb mono with no problem at all. I cast 1/4 ounce lures way over 35 yards like nothing. Fits perfectly in my hand and very comfortable. The drag is one beast it's just great soooo smooth. I would reccomend this to anyone that's looking for a great cheap reel. Greatest purchase ever

This is my second review of this reel, a follow-up if you will. The Orra started out as a great reel but I have been having an issue that has yet to be resolved. The anti-reverse bearings are not functioning properly, at least I believe the issue lies there. Whenever I get my bait hung up or set the hook on a large fish, the reel handle gives out and starts to go backward. I know the bearings are not stripped and I have even sent it in for repairs once and the issue still remains. I know this reel isn't exactly Revo quality, but for 100 dollars, it should not be having this issue.
It should also be noted that mine is the original revision and not a second revision which supposedly has upgraded bearings.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

just caught a ten pounder on my brand new orra sx. i did not have no problems with back lash and drag is ultra smooth. a 6 to 4 ratio speed could be increased though.i had it attached to a 7 foot 10 inch skeet reese rod by wright and mcgill.i have a few abu garcia rods but not alot of them. i felt a small tick on my red eye shad and apparently the bass was swimming staight toward me and i though he had come off until i tightened up on him. the reel was ans is well designed.
