I bought my new rod reel combo today. I took it straight to my local lake and had alot of trouble getting a good cast. I spent more time cleaning up my line then I did fishing. I was either casting 5 feet away or untying knots from backlash. I really love the gear ratio but if I can't get this working the way it was advertised then I'm going back to an opened faced reel. Why is it so hard to include a manual? It'd be nice to have the info right out of the gate instead of having a bad expierence and then coming here to complain about it. If anything post a demo video for the novice bait cast reel buyer/user!!!!!!!!!! Also I'd like you to send me a brand new, top of the line rod and reel combo since I am ruined now on baitcast reels without manuals.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Sorry to hear you are having trouble casting your new Sliver Max. It sounds like your issue may be due to the way the casting brake systems are configured.

Try this:

With the rod-reel-line-lure properly assembled, place the tip of your thumb on the line to hold the spool. Depress the thumb bar with the pad of your thumb to disengage the gears. Allow the lure to drop to the ground. If the lure does not fall when the thumb bar is depressed, turn the spool tension knob (located next to the reel handle) counterclockwise (left) to reduce tension on the spool. If the lure falls to the ground and the spool continues to rotate, spool tension is too loose. Rotate the knob clockwise (right) to increase tension. Once the spool tension is set, you can then rotate the Magtrax brake (opposite side of the reel from the handle) to further fine tune you casting.

There is a little bit of a learning curve associated with baitcasting reels when anglers start using them for the first time. With practice, using a baitcasting reel becomes much easier and allows for extreme accuracy and control. As you suggested, we have plans to create casting demo videos to help out customers who are new to baitcasting reels.

I agree with "whosurdanny" about not including a manual or even the most basic set-up/use instructions with the SilverMAX2. I've tried baitcasters in the past and had nothing but problems so have stuck with spincasters. Recently saw the Abu Garcia unit at a great price, figured the magnetic systems had improved over the years, and decided to give it another try. The reel is nicely made, has a great feel, and casts really well; but a novice will have the same experience as the previous writer and give it up. A little more attention on your part would make for better customer satisfaction.

The product is great don't get me wrong. But after a whole days fishing the thumb bar is starting to get stuck after i cast. I have to manually raise the thumb bar up. Just bought the rod and reel combo on friday from walmart. I'm going to take it back for an exchange of product.

No instructions packed with the reel; just the parts schematic. Doesn't cast well at all. Backlash all the time. I've had cheaper reels that were much, much better than this one. It's going back!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Came with no instructions. Backlashes every time no matter how I adjust the magnetic brake or the spool tension control. I would think I would get better with practice, but I am too involved with untying bird's nests from the frequent backlashes.
