I bought the Black Max 2 on sale just before Thanksgiving and was really excited to get to use it. Put it on my steelhead bobber fishing rod with a floating line. First fish I got on ran for the boat and slacked the line on the real. The line went over the edge of the spool and into the gears. The line went tight and I lost the fish. Couldn't get the line out from the gears off the end of the spool to save my life. Threw the whole thing away.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I own the original black max reel and it performs very well, so i gave this one a try. True to the Abu Garcia name, it is a great product.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Two 5 1/2 pound Stripied Bass Texoma
I caught these big Striped bass with a ABU Black Max. These reels are TOUGH and can handle the punishment of BIG FISH!!
I urge anyone to try one of these reels they are worth every dollar. Or you can get one of the more expesive reel and the quality is greatness on ALL ABU reels
heres my first fish of the 2011 wisconsin opener. a nice healthy northern pike
i used the black max last year for bass,muskie and northern and it held up great to whatever i could throw at it...i paired it up w/ 30lb braid and it cast a mile. it also had the lock down drag out power to drag the hogs out of the jungle. for the price this reel cant be beat! i look forward to buying another one to add to my deadly abu aresenal!
