my new reel is so smooth in it's operation i just can't believe it.
worth every cent that i paid. compared to the old fashioned bait cast reel it looks like a ufo. too cool. thanks for a reel that makes me want to fish even more than i do now !!!

I been using this four about 2 years. I can't even tell you the toughness of these reels. I used it in saltwater and caught many Sea Trout, Reddish, and flounder. In freshwater I caught many champion size bass. I'n not a professional fishing guy but the Black Max gets the job done.

i decided to use a baitcaster for steelhead fishing, wanted something light to be able to cast all day and something cheap in case i ended up not liking it. it fulfilled my two requirements. It was quite easy to learn how to cast. I would recommend watching videos first online on how to cast. Initially the drag was very smooth. Landed tons of steelhead no problem. The fast gear ratio is also nice when fish are coming right at you. The only problem i have now is that the drag is not quite as smooth. It is rather jerky. makes me nervous about loosing the fish. Sometimes I just release the spool and use my thumb for pressure. I don't know if the more expensive reels have better drags. Overall pretty happy with this inexpensive reel.

THE FIRST BAIT CASTER I EVER BOUGHT WAS A BLACK MAX IN THE LATE 80'S , YOU KNOW THE ONE WITH THE FLIP UP NOSE SO YOU COULD DIG AT YOUR BACK LASHES . I LIKED IT SO GOOD I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE JUST A FEW WEEKS LATER AND I'M STILL USESING THEM TILL THIS DAY. THATS OVER 20 YEARS AND THEY STILL WORK FLAWLESSLY. NOW I HAVE THE NEW BLACK MAX AND I LOVE THE LOWER PROFILE . IF IT LAST AS LONG AS THE FIRST ONES I GOT WHAT A TESTAMENT OF TRUE QUALLITY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP!KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND THANKS FOR MANY YEARS OF FISHING EXCITEMENT,DON.
