The very first fish that I caught with my new Veritas Micro Guide Rod, it snapped about 8 inches from the top on a 14 1/2 inch bass. I don't even use the "cross their eyes" hookset. I use the sweep and reel set. Fortunately I was using braid and was able to land the fish. This rod had not been stepped on, banged against other rods, or otherwise poorly handled. Now let's see how good Abu Garcia's customer service is.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been using Veritas rods the past two season and recently picked up 2 new ones with the micro guides. I have had one out of seven break, but sent it back to Abu Garcia and a new rod was delivered within 2 weeks. I am extremely pleased and for the price point, you can't beat their sensitivity. I use 7' Medium and 7' Medium-micro for small cranks and lighter spinnerbaits, 7'3" MH for swim jigs, chatterbaits, and buzz frogs, 7'MH-micro for texas rigs, and the 7'6" winch series for deep cranks. My partner recently picked up a 7'6" MH for pitching purposes and I have noticed his hook up ratio (probably due to sensitivity of the bite) come up. Great rod for the under $100 price range.

I have had mine since May and I have pulled in many fish with it without the first problem. The sensitivity is unreal. I've caught my biggest and slung it in the boat with no problem. It was a tiny almost three pounder but it was big to me lol. I love the rod u can't go wrong for the money.

Tested my VRS66-6(MH) for the first time last week on large redfish and speckled trout. The rod's backbone, action and sensitivity are perfect for this, my favorite type of fishing. The only problem I had was with a couple of the those single-foot guides. On my 3rd cast with the new rod, the first reduction guide past the butt-guide sheared off. On the next day of fishing, the second reduction guide sheared off. Both breaks appear to be brittle fractures. My guess is that impact of the double uni-knot connection between my braid line and fluorocarbon leader against the guides caused the breakages. Otherwise, it was a great fishing trip since the rod was still usable while missing 2 guides...it still allowed me to stop a couple of large redfish when they tried to run under the boat!

Redfish and speckled trout tamer...cont'd

This is a followup to my previous review. Abu Garcia expeditiously sent a replacement for my 6'6" MH spinning model Veritas(actually, kindly sent me a 7' replacement as I requested). I took the 7 footer to Grand Isle last week and the exact same thing happened! On the second day of fishing, the reduction guide sheared off during a cast and the next day, the next guide broke off. The exact same conditions existed....I used a 7-8 foot long 20# flurocarbon leader joined with 20# braid with a double uniknot and was casting a float that weighs about 1 ounce(with a Daiwa Tierra 3500 spinning reel). It apears that the Veritas guides will withstand the shock of a uniknot striking them for only a limited number of times. Otherwise, I still LOVE these Veritas rods!!!
