This reel is my favorite true Low-Pro Baitcaster. I use it for everything from trout to cobia! This is a top-notch product, and I would put my neck out on the line any day to have someone buy one of these!
I would recommend this to a friend!

S.F. Bay Area
Issues after 1 yr of use
Posted April 2, 2011
I fish the S,F. Bay Area and bought this reel specifically for casting fish traps. It's super smooth and cast well but on it's fifth outting the free spool went out. I've since have had the reel fixed and have experienced no issues. I own a good number of saltwater reels but this is likely to be my first and last abu garcia.

I'm in my sixties and when I was growing up everyone wanted an ABU Garcia reel. They were the best of the best! But at some point there was an explosion in technology, design, and function that ABU Garcia failed to participate in. With their new line of low profile reels and rods they seemed to have fought their way back! For some time now I've been looking for a low profile reel for saltwater applications and have been very disappointed until now. An Abu Garcia inshore lowprofile baitcasting reel will find a home in my arsenal come the start of the 2011 season. Good show ABU Garcia!

I have been using this reel fishing off my kayak in the bays and along inshore coast of southern California for the last year, catching and releasing a lot of calico bass, spotted bay bass, and halibuts. Drag is smooth and strong, while the gears enable me to turn the fish toward the kayak quickly; needed to prevent fish from getting into the rocks and kelp. Casts crankbaits, jigs, and spinnerbaits with ease. The reels handles the saltwater great, which is needed when fishing off a kayak. I have spooled mine with 30 lb braid and a 20 lb fluorocarbon topshot, with no issues with casting; lighter drag setting to compensate for the lack of stretch in these lines vs. monofilament. Overall, a lot of great properties in a small light saltwater reel. Highly recommend this reel.

This reel is extremely light weight and small design. It has a thumb screw to access the braking system which is very fast and easy to use. The thing will cast a mile and is smoother than any reel I've ever seen. I like it so much, I had to go buy a second one. You cannot go wrong with this reel.

Awesome! I mean AAAwesome Saltwater Reel
Posted February 3, 2011
I'm an avid inshore saltwater fisherman and I still do a little freshwater as well. Grew up freshwater fishing. As many of you know, your freshwater gear won't hold up for ever fishing in the salt, mud and marshes. After several years, this reel has stood the test of time and still performs like the day I purchased it. If you are an inshore fisherman, or you plan on fishing inshore, you've got to invest in this reel. You'll be glad you did when fighting those big reds.
