I won this reel last year. I was concerned with it since I never used a bait caster before. Well it is very easy to use, I can't believe how nice it feels casting and reeling in. Very Smooth. I caught a couple 18" large mouth bass and this reel handled them with no problems. I would highly recommend this reel to anyone. Top Quality reel.

the MGX is by far the best reel ive ever fished! i Picked one up about a month and its amazing. It out casts reels twice its price, its smooth, fits in your hand like it was molded for you personally. Yes it does come loaded with grease but they all do just for protection during shipping/retail. I love the quick oil access panel. The MGX only has 12 lbs of drag but its great for most applications but I still turn to my Premier for heavy cover. I did have it paired up with a Villain but unfortunatly it snapped just below the wrap of the top eye. its now on my 7' med. Veritas with the micro guides and i love it! you can cast all day and have little to no arm/wrist fatigue, its so light and well balanced you can barely tell your holding it!!! If you have been thinking about it, go for it... you wont be dissapointed. my personal opinion however it go with the Veritas, the Villain is a light sensitive rod but the Veritas has more backbone and the micro guides are great.

I purchased the Revo SX last winter and am so pleased with the great performance. I recently purchased the MGX and I'm blown away. The SX is great but the MGX is unbeatable! Honestly, this reel casts further and smoother than any reel I've laid my hands on. Throwing a 1/8 oz jig is nothing for the MGX. It's a pretty penny, but it's worth every cent. I am more pleased with this reel than any other product I've ever used. Abu Garcia continues to keep with the highest standards and is nothing short of the best!

This hands down has been my go to reel, I wish I had two of them. I prefer is over any of my quantums or shimanos. I would use just this reel on my boat if it were a little cheaper. Great product its worth the money.

As with all Abu Garcia reels, they overload this thing with grease and oil. I wasn’t only so-so impressed at first, but after totally disassembling, cleaning and assembling using only a few drops of oil and a microscopic amount of grease on the gears, the difference is phenomenal. It feels 1000 times better than before. I like this reel so much; I spent the $80 and upgraded all the bearings (minus the 4 in the handle) to ceramics and that made an even bigger difference. I have never cast as far or as accurately with any reel as I am able to with this one. The only problem I have had is thin line digging into itself and jamming up the spool. I think this is actually because it’s spinning a little too well and I tend to leave the brake on its lowest setting! I originally had 15lb Suffix 832 and re-spooled it with the 30lb spider wire ultracast fluoro-braid and it eliminated that problem. At .30mm, it’s a larger diameter line than I would like, but it does the job well.
Abu - Why so much grease? Also, a power handle would be nice...

The Revo MGX is the best casting bait-caster i have ever used. Could cast an extra 25% farther with no bird-nesting. The drag malfunctioned twice so far but fixed its self as i was removing the string so i could send the reel back. I will keep using it but if the drag malfunctions one more time i will be sending it back.. I bought this reel to last for 10 years or so but i don't see that happening.
Never fished with a better reel but it feels like it could brake at any second.
I get the same casting distance with my exo quantum. I would suggest both reels.

Are you using braid? Since you said it 'fixed' itself after removing the line then more than likely you are not using a backing and the braid is slipping around the spool. When that happens It feels like the drag is slipping when its actually the line slipping around the spool.

After fishing this reel twice I've sold my other high end bait cast reels and I'm now replacing them with MGX's. To me the MGX is a notch above the others in this price range. Love the ergos the most but the lite weight, casting performance and overall smoothness are also very nice. I highly recommend the MGX.

i have the revo mgx for a couple months now i do alot of saltwater fishing and some freshwater. i have had numerous pepole that have fished with how i throw a baitcaster so far i tell them they need to get a revo its hands down the best baitcaster i have ever used the only down side is that it is a little price wish there was some way you could lower the price a little. and i have a little grind on the gears every once in a while.

I have been using Shimanos for years. Had the chance to use an MGX and could not belive it! Put it on a new Verdict rod and it was outstanding. Threw some small to medium jigs and tubes and the control and feel was excellent. would recommend this reel (and rod) to anyone.

Revo MGX is a great low profile I had before , is light & smooth reel, now I combine MGX with my Verdict rod is great for light weight lures such as 2.5gram also seldom have backlashes problem. But I'm still waiting my MGX perfect matching rod (Villain).
I don't know when Villain will delivery to my country, Malaysia!!!

I loved the sx then I tried the stx and fell in love with this work horse. Sold all the sx reels and bought4 of the premiers and it was amazing great performance and light weight.Just bought my first and certainly not my last MGX. Just when you think a reel could not get any lighter or smoother Abu Garcia hit a home run.

Bought the MGX it is the lightest, farthest casting, smoothest reel i've ever used. Well worth the investment, once you try one you'll want five more, i know I do. Already used it on largemouth and smallmouth and a few pike and am going to try it out on stripers this weekend.
