As with all Abu Garcia reels, they overload this thing with grease and oil. I wasn’t only so-so impressed at first, but after totally disassembling, cleaning and assembling using only a few drops of oil and a microscopic amount of grease on the gears, the difference is phenomenal. It feels 1000 times better than before. I like this reel so much; I spent the $80 and upgraded all the bearings (minus the 4 in the handle) to ceramics and that made an even bigger difference. I have never cast as far or as accurately with any reel as I am able to with this one. The only problem I have had is thin line digging into itself and jamming up the spool. I think this is actually because it’s spinning a little too well and I tend to leave the brake on its lowest setting! I originally had 15lb Suffix 832 and re-spooled it with the 30lb spider wire ultracast fluoro-braid and it eliminated that problem. At .30mm, it’s a larger diameter line than I would like, but it does the job well.
Abu - Why so much grease? Also, a power handle would be nice...

The Revo MGX is the best casting bait-caster i have ever used. Could cast an extra 25% farther with no bird-nesting. The drag malfunctioned twice so far but fixed its self as i was removing the string so i could send the reel back. I will keep using it but if the drag malfunctions one more time i will be sending it back.. I bought this reel to last for 10 years or so but i don't see that happening.
Never fished with a better reel but it feels like it could brake at any second.
I get the same casting distance with my exo quantum. I would suggest both reels.

Are you using braid? Since you said it 'fixed' itself after removing the line then more than likely you are not using a backing and the braid is slipping around the spool. When that happens It feels like the drag is slipping when its actually the line slipping around the spool.

After fishing this reel twice I've sold my other high end bait cast reels and I'm now replacing them with MGX's. To me the MGX is a notch above the others in this price range. Love the ergos the most but the lite weight, casting performance and overall smoothness are also very nice. I highly recommend the MGX.
