First, I am an avid Abu fan as I own so many. (1) 5500 C, (2) 5000, (2) 4600, (1) 6600. I fish two to three times a week usually 9 months out of the year.
I just purchased the MGX early this August and just two weeks ago made a trip to MN for a week long fishing trip to try my MGX for the first time.
At first MGX seemed a bit noisy at first, then with more casting began to quiet down with use. Maybe the over oiling or breaking in like on pistols. :o)
Light weight, smooth as silk, and handled the Bass and Northern Pike with ease. Drag was sufficient. Didn't tire me like the 5000's but that's the idea. It's coupled with the Veritas rod. Overall I am well please. Longevity as the round reels is yet to be seen. :o)
Getting ready to get the newly released Revo S to match my other Veritas rod and I will put it through the test along with my continued use of the MGX. Running out of room in my Bass Boat. So yea....... Great reel. ~ Indy Mac

Since i bought the MGX 7.9:1, im using it on my flipping/light pitching stick. And i saw the diffence. When i set the hook under heavy cover and there is a big Bass under it, i have all my confidence on that reel. No other reel are lightner and stronger then that.. I highly recommend that reel for every fishermen. Because they are build for extreme fishermen...

Unbeleivable reel, light strong, fast retrieve, the weight savings is astounding. Can't wait to get another one...

I have just recently switched from spinner reels to bait caster. I have been a huge Abu fan for years now and i own a cheap combo and it works well but i have fought my fair share of nests. I bought the 7.9:1 MGXat Gander Mountain today and i am amazed at how light the reel is and i was like a kid with a new toy at show and tell. Everyone loved the reel. I went to the lake with it and i fished for 5 hours and it never once nested up and i have never casted so far either! I am a bu customer for life. Looking at a Revo wench next. I have it on a Vendetta 7' medium fast currently i will be heading to Bass pro this weekend and buying a Veritas Micro.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I hope abu garcia will create a GMX with a 20 pounds maximum drag with a left hand retrieve. PLEASE PLEASE I have many of abu garcia casting reels. I need a MGX with power to land a 20 plus Salmon.

Purchased the Revo MGX just to see what all the hype was about. First time fishing with it was in heavy rain and high wind. The reel performed flawlessly and I must say that the advanced IVCB-IV Brake system is just outstanding. With single click adjustments you can really tune to your bait quickly. We fished for 6 hours straight and for the first time ever I didn't need a brake. Reel is just outstanding. Thanks Abu Garcia for a great product.
