I was using ABU Veritas and Shimano Crucial rods for most of my setups. Had problems with Veritas and swapped it for a Villian. What a difference. The Villian rods are the lightest most sensitive rods I have ever used. The guides are much better too. I have gotten rid of my Veritas and Crucials and now have 7 of the Villian rods paired with Revo STX, Premiers, and MGX. I use the MGX with Villian 6ft 6 for jerk baits and finese jigs, Premier with Villian 6' 9" for jigs and plastics, STX with Villian 6' 9" for spinnerbaits and top waters (this has got to be the best spinnerbait combo ever). STX with Villian 7' 1" for punch baits. I fish year round and depend on my gear. Thanks ABU Garcia.

I have seven of these rods, two of these rods (VLC80-7 8'), and I love them, I have a (RVO TR WNCH 61) mounted with 17lb Nanofil.
I use this for the most for Stripers and blues, everyone thought I was nutz on the boat (might be true), but a few of the regulars have moved that way. It is a blast when you get a big blue on or a 30lb Striper. I have never lost a fish do to equipment, just my haste or stupidity of not paying attention. I also have the (VLS71-6 Spinning) with a (Revo Premier 20 (PRM20)) with the same line on it. I use this for when we are into smaller Stripers or big Fluke.

I've always been a faithful St. Croix fan boy until this rod came out. I picked up the 7'1" MH Fast action and paired it with the Revo Gen 2 SX 11 bearings 6.4:1. I only bought the Revo Gen 2 because I got for a great deal (BIN $ 55). This combo is incredibly light (Revo Gen 3 would've been lighter) compared to my 7' M Fast EXO PT rod/reel combo and 7'6" H Fast St. Croix Avid with Pfluger Patriarch combo. Thanks Abu Garcia for feeding my addiction to fishing some more! I will definitely be buying 3-5 more of these rods and also an MGX LH retrieve, the Premier LH retrieve and 2 more Revo Gen 3 SXs in a couple of months. I am a converted man and will never ever use anything else other then Abu Garcia! Abu Garcia FOR LIFE!!!!!

I have always been a fan and strong supporter of ABU. Having fished professionally, filmed 131 + fishing tip shows in Florida and having operated a guide service, I have tested many products. I highly recommend Villain rods. For the price, I feel this rod will deliver fishermen an excellent product. Taken care of properly, you will get many fising trips out of your Villain rod.

I took up fishing in July 2012 and in the past month bought an MGX, Winch and this Villian rod. I just received the M/L version of this rod and before I EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO FISH WITH IT, the foam on the butt/handle ripped off at the very bottom. The rod was being stored in my closet, a place where it's barely touched and where the foam should be kept intact (at least until fishing season :). I can't speak to the sensitivity, action, etc. because I haven't had a chance to fish with the rod yet. I do, however, expect the rod to handle well, though I have to say I'm a little disappointed about the durability/craftsmanship.

Good morning and thank you for reaching out to us. What you describe is not normal and is actually the first case that we have heard of about the EVA foam being an issue on our rods. It may have been damaged during shipping or on the shelf causing the ultimate failure that you have now. No worries though as we are here to help. All Abu Garcia "V" series rods carry a 3 year warranty - one of our customer service representatives has already been notified about your case and will reach out to you shortly at the email address that you provided with this review. We will work hard to get you back to fishing quickly. Have a great day!

Abu Garcia has EARNED MY LOYALTY FOR LIFE!
Posted March 11, 2013
Shortly after posting my review, in which I detailed that the foam ripped off of my new Villian rod, I got an email from Abu asking for photos and my mailing address. A week later I received a REPLACEMENT ROD. I didn't even ask for a replacement. WOW, that is fantastic service. They have earned my loyalty for life.
Thanks Abu Garcia!

I had a tournament Dec 1st on Potomac river maryland/DC and my villain snapped at the 2nd guide throwing a 5/8th oz Jig & Pig. This couldnt have happened at a worse time, i ended up ranking 7th using all Abu Garcia gear but my snapped rod had me handicapped for the entire tournament. These rods are very light, the action of these rods need slight more improvement & somehow need to increase the durability without sacrificing rod action. I wish Abu focused more on balance & proper tip action but they are still great rods made with some of the best components. I brought this fish in yesterday on the medium action rod with Revo MGX with no problems. The stiffness of these rods give better hooksets on big fish, but imo it needs more flex for further casts and better presentation

This is the best rod i have ever owned in my life! I purchased the 7'1" MH model and it is my all purpose "God Rod." This rod is Ultra sensitive with its exposed reel seat, match that with the EVA handle and it provides the Ultimate in sensitivity and comfort. It is also very strong and has great backbone. Micro guides for precision casts. Sleek black design looks very cool as well.
I matched this with the REVO STX and couldnt be happier!
Thank You Abu Garcia!

Great rod. Used prob 4 times within 2 months before ut randomly broke in half upon casting. Paired with my revo mgx hispeed can do alot. Imo didnt feel good for deep diving cranks but maybe just me. Could of sent to abu but had instore warranty for direct replace. If break randomly again same way will prob go diff rod company. I understand possible defects from factory or possible bad ship/handling at store could of worn rod but will see how 2nd one holds up. Good luck to all.

I bought this rod and I was so anxious to try it out I went and did some night fishing at ky lake. Let me tell you. This is buy far the most sensitive rod I have ever fished with. I have fished with all the Abu Garcia rods and don't get me wrong they are all good. But this one is great. It is so sensitive it make me think that I have been missing so many fish all these years just not being able to feel them. Last night every fish that touched my worm also got to touch my hands. I never missed a fish. I also found out the strength of this rod first hand. I landed a 6 lb 10 oz largemouth by swinging him on the boat. If I knew it was that big I would have lipped him. But needless to say this is te beat rod ever so go and buy one and tell a story like mine. You won't be disappointed.

Abu Garcia Villain 7'6" casting rod: You guys named this rod wrong, it should of been named HERO! I never owned a rod that was so sensitive and yet a power house to fish whatever structure a lake has to offer! It is so light to use, it makes switch to another rod and extreme burden! I matched it to my Garcia Revo SX bait casting reel to make on AWESOME combo! The reel seat allows you to feel more through the rod blank! Words can't express how it feels in my hands...balanced to perfection! I have fished it with both mono and braided lines and works great with both. I own two Garcia Vendetta rods and they're great rods, but this VILLAIN rod is in a league all it own! This is also my FiRST fishing rod I have ever bought WITHOUT feeling it in my hands first! This was a perchance I just never do! A reel is one thing, but the rod is so important to know how it feels! Take it from me, it FEELS GREAT! If you're on the fence not sure you want this rod, please let me assure you, this is the rod to own! You can thank me later.

I recently Purchased a Villain 7' med casting rod paired with the MGX and loved it! the action and sensitivity was amazing, BUT it snapped just below the wrap of the top eye casting a 3/8 oz spinner!!! I took it back and exchanged it for another Veritas. Its possible i got a Lemon but from my personal experience the Veritas has a little more backbone when you need it and the micro guides arent available on the Villain. go for the Veritas and MGX

We are sorry to hear that you had an issue with your Villain rod & are happy to hear you got it taken care of and are back to fishing. The issue that you describe is certainly not normal. I have the villian paired with me mgx , it makes it the sexiest baitcaster rod and reel combo on this planet. the rod was super senstive, very sturdy, easy to cast long power casts. The only thing i would recomend for this rod is a lil more backbone. it snapped just below the second eye on a 4 pound largemouth bass, still got the fish in but was very saddened by the pole snapping. sent it back to factory , expecting to recieve my new one soon:) Abu Garcia For LIFE!!!

I am a avid fisherman with a love for new fishing toys. When Abu Garcia came out with their new Villain rods I had to try some. To start with I picked up 3 new rods to use for the Walleye and Smallmouth bass in our area. Two Spinning rods VLS71-5 and a VLS71-6 and one Casting rod VLC66-5. I combined them with the Abu Garcia Revo reels. I have fished with a bunch of the top quality rods out there in my endeavors to catch more walleye. Sensitive, Strength and a Lightweight rod that feels good in my hand is what I am after. Well at the end of the day the Villain rods get 5 stars, only because they don't list 10 stars. I have fished with rods costing much much more and for my money this rod offers the ultimate in rod performance. Try it! You will like it!

I've had some recent experiences with the baitcasting end of the Villain rod series and thought it time to share my experiences with one of the spinning rods, specifically the Villain VLS610-5. There are 3 features I would like to focus to start. The hook-keeper, the reel seat and the EVA grips.
The hook-keeper is perfectly placed on the under side of the blank just a bit forward of reel foot. I don't know about you but I place my thumb on the top side of the blank just a bit above the fore grip and it would get very annoying after a while. I would wind up using side cutters and removing it, voiding the warranty in the process. The price one pays for comfort. Thanks Abu for perfect placement.
Secondly, the reel seat. The ergonomic design is the most comfortable I've ever used. It fits my palm perfectly, similar to any good hand tool. I don't worry about slippage or movement unless I want my hand to move.
Finally, the EVA grip material. Rain began to fall during my last trip but the bass were biting and I wasn't leaving. The texture of the grip didn't get slippery at all and I remained in control. The material was supple without being flimsy or soft.
Again, the little things added up to a whole lot.
I use this rod for both small shad shaped crankbaits and wacky worming with 8lb Berkley 100% flourocarbon line. The strike detection capabilities are excellent and also gives good feedback regarding structure and cover in the area being fished. The MF taper provides for good control over your baits and over fish during the fight.
I used this rod with the Revo Premier 30 spinning reel.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I am a professional Fishing Guide and Pro Bass Angler on the PAA tournament series. The Villain series is my choice of rods when it comes to my clients, or my self putting fish in the boat. It dose not mater if the bite is light or aggressive, in thick cover or open water, you can feel the bite, because they are extremely sensitive, light weight, and strong. When fishing a tournament, when money is on the line or on guided trips I only use the best. I highly recommend the Villain series rods to any angler that is serious about fishing, and serious about there gear.
I would recommend this to a friend!
