I used the VLC71-5 rod with several types of crankbaits and jerkbaits. The tip section was soft enough to send the baits a good distance and allowed me to detect the structure and cover the baits encountered and respond accordingly through veg, stumps, rocks and rip-rap. The mid-section of the rod transitioned well to the butt and handle section. Although not truly parabolic, the blend of flexibility and firmness in the blank assisted in controlling the fish. I matched this rod with the 7.1:1 and the 7.9:1 MGX reels so the combination didn't wear my arm out after a day of fishing. I also used the Revo Premier and found that to be suitable. All in all, the Villain is a superior piece of fishing tackle. If you want to throw crankbaits through day, detect the bites and bring the bass to the boat, you should check out the Villain VLC71-5.
I have been a fan of the Vendetta, Veritas and Verdict fishing rods, so when the new Villain rods were announced, purchasing a few was a no-brainer. I liked the styling and based upon my previous experience with Abu rods, I knew performance wouldn't be an issue. I decided on something to use with jerkbaits, based upon seasonal reasons. My choice was the 6'9" ML/MF Villain casting rod, matched with a Revo MGX reel. The set-up worked perfectly. I was able to cast the baits for close-up or distance depending upon need. The action was soft without being sloppy. I had no problem setting the hook. I could control the fish very well with 8lb Berkley 100% Flourocarbon line. The handles and reel seat were comfortable. I also used the 7'1" M/M casting rod and MGX reel and the 6'10" M/MF spinning rod and Revo Premier 30 reel. I was very impressed by the performance of the equipment and would recommend any of the rods or reels without hesitation. I'm extremely satisfied and I'll be purchasing a few more rods over the next month.
My only suggestion, offer it with Micro guides, or at least smaller guides. The guides on this rod are HUGE!
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love this rod. I got it as a present and it is awesome. It is super light and sensitive. The only reason I gave action a 4 is because I would love a 6'6 med light. Abu please make one for me and I promis to only buy Abu products till im'e dead. By the way im'e only 15 and I have a lot of money.
