I purchased the winch this summer for casting those big crank baits. In middle TN we do a lot of casting in the month of June on the local reservoirs. My job takes me to Korea sometimes and in June of this year I returned from Korea on a Friday and fished a local Walmart BFL tournament on Saturday. Even though I had not slept in 26 hrs, I still was able to fish all day with the winch because it makes casting almost effortless. Long story short, I placed 3rd and almost had big fish too. I now have 7 Abu Garcia baitcast reels in my collection and look forward to number 8, "The Revo MGX".

When I first purchased this reel, the staff questioned me about what I would be using it for and LAUGHED when I told them I would be using it for winter steelhead fishing. This reel isn't just for bass, its amazing handling for steelhead and salmon makes it a leader among reels. I sure get looks when I pull it out on the river, beside all the "coffeegrinder" reel users. Thanks Abu!

I fish for catfish with mine. The biggest catfish I've caught with my winch is 8 lbs. I don't target the monster size, but I'm confident if I hooked one, the winch would have no problem bringing it in.

I agree with you that most anglers in BC are not in tuned with what new tech is out there and are very adverse to change! I have been looking to get one these for awhile now and reading your comment and seeing you are from BC sold me!

What a great reel for cranking, just as the description says. I've used this all summer now throwing my BIG cranks such as a Bomber Fat Free Shad and Norman DD22. This reel makes throwing these over-sized cranks almost effortless. The brakes are easy to adjust with a quick twist of the side panel and it's very user friendly all around even if you've never owned an Abu Garcia before. I can launch big cranks, little square bills, and of course rattle traps REGARDLESS of weight with this reel. Abu Garcia's braking system is the best in the business and it's components do NOT wear out. It's lite, tough, and easy to use. Haven't used it to flip with because i've fallen in love with it as my crankin' reel so i'll leave with this: If you're looking for a no-brainer, easy-to-use, yet somehow superior cranking reel - you found it in the Winch.

Absolute must for the cranktbait user. Smooth as silk, fits comfortably in the hand, casts smoothly, and easily broken down for monthly maintenance.
